The landscape design of our garden cannot be complete without a swing. The garden swing is a favorite of young and old. It is an indispensable part of any garden furniture and as such it is important to approach carefully when we are about to buy one. Let's take a look all options and together we choose the most suitable option.
First of all, we need to ask ourselves what kind of swing we need. These facilities differ in many ways. There are a variety of models and colors. The materials from which they are made also provide a wide variety for customers. This topic is so vast, that I don't know where to start. Let's look at each model and design separately.
1. Garden swing type bench or sofa. This is the most widely used model. It is suitable both for one person and for the whole family. The color of the swing can be whatever you want. Red, yellow, green or blue - you decide which color will suit your garden. Even if you do not find a swing with your color in the online stores, it is not difficult to seek the services of an experienced tailor who will sew a damask in the appropriate color. This option fits perfectly with any garden interior and you can easily combine it with everything else. Very often, this swing includes a canopy, which protects us from the heat and creates additional comfort. Before buying such a model, consider the weight that the swing can bear. Choose a soft and comfortable upholstery that, if possible, does not get dirty and last but not least, a sturdy construction. Here, the best option is a metal swing, as the metal is resistant to the load. Of course, the model has its drawbacks. The metal corrodes, so it needs periodic treatment. The canopy and the upholstery burn out from the sun if the swing is outdoors. The last downside is that if you swing too hard there is a good chance the swing will tip over unless it is secured in some way to the ground. My swing is well hidden from the sun and moisture under the porch, so I only have the tipping problem, but that's why I don't like to swing hard :)
2. The other suggestion is a chair-type swing. This is a suspended swing that can be attached in two ways. With spring or without spring. Both models have their disadvantages and advantages, but both are extremely elegant. If you choose such an option with a spring, it will most likely include an additional device on which to hang the swing. The seating of such a swing is usually very soft and does not give out no squeaking noises. It can be placed anywhere in the yard and can withstand many kilograms, but the downside here is that in strong wind or strong rocking, the chair can be overturned. The compromised stability is improved with a chair swing without a spring. You can swing as hard as you like. Due to the absence of any mechanisms, this swing is less fragile than the other. This model is firmly attached to beams or trees with hinges. However, there is a creaking here, which is quite unpleasant. The other disadvantage is that it cannot be placed anywhere, but only where you create the carrier. There is no canopy and in the summer if you don't position the swing in the shade you will be very hot. Both models can be found in a variety of color combinations. As its name suggests, the garden swing chair is only for sitting. You cannot lie down comfortably there, that's why everyone's favorite hammock comes to the rescue.
3. The hammock is associated with the sea and the magical tropics, that's why it is so sought after by people, especially by the owners of houses with a garden. The classic hammock is very similar to a swing-type chair without springs. Except that you can lie down and sleep in it. The difference also lies in the foundation. It is not hard like the other garden swings, but is made of 100% cotton. Of course, we can find other materials, but more details in another article. If you have decided to buy a hammock, you must determine its place in advance. The most beautiful a hammock would stand between two trees, but we know that not everyone has stable and large trees in their garden, so it will be necessary to additionally build a supporting structure. This can most often be done with wooden or metal columns. Wooden columns will fit much better in the "garden landscape", but they are less durable than metal ones. However, I recommend you to choose a metal structure that you paint in brown to resemble wood. Yes, really everyone wants to own one a hammock where he can relax and drink a cocktail. However, many people refuse such a purchase because of the balance, or rather the lack of it, when you lie down on this swing. However, if the hammock is more relaxed, i.e. not stretched too much, you can ensure a better balance of the body in a horizontal position. However, you should not give up the hammock, because even if you do not use it every day, it is a wonderful decoration for your garden. The common thing between all facilities is that they are suitable for both adults and children. If, of course, the children are very small, you will need a special garden swing for babies. They are characterized by lightness and additional protection against falling. Most often they are plastic, but other options can also be found. They can be placed with a stand on the ground or hung. There is a huge selection on the Internet.
It's actually very easy to make your dream garden swing yourself. You can use any materials at hand. A thick rope and a suitable wooden seat board would do a great job. You just need to have enough imagination.
